Test Your Knowledge:
Can You Pass the U.S. Citizenship Civics Quiz?

As the Fourth of July approaches, we often think of fireworks, parades, and barbecues. However, this iconic holiday also marks a significant tradition in the United States: the naturalization of new citizens. This year, an estimated 11,000 individuals will officially become American citizens, doubling the number from 2023. To honor Independence Day, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will host 195 naturalization ceremonies around the globe between June 28 and July 5. Some lucky new citizens will even take their oath of allegiance at historic landmarks like George Washington’s Mount Vernon or Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.

Before participating in these ceremonies, all aspiring U.S. citizens must pass a two-part test. The first part assesses their English language skills, while the second consists of an oral exam featuring 10 civics questions selected from a pool of 100.

To help you gauge your knowledge, we’ve created a quiz based on these questions. Can you answer at least six correctly to pass? Let’s find out!
